LEICESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND and KIDWELLY, WALES — On Dec. 7, Assisi Pet Care Group Limited announced its acquisition of Kidwelly-based Burns Pet Nutrition. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Burns Pet Nutrition was founded in 1993 by John Burns, a veterinary surgeon, who aimed to solve common health problems in pets through nutrition. Today, Burns Pet Nutrition is known for its high-quality, natural dry and wet dog food formulas, as well as its recently introduced range of cat foods.

“After 30 years of owning and growing Burns Pet Nutrition, I feel that is time for me to retire and hand over the reins,” Burns said. “It has been a joyful and, at times, difficult journey. I have had a great deal of support from many people and organizations over the years and I would like to extend my grateful thanks to all of them.

“I am delighted that Assisi Pet Care is a good fit for Burns and they will grow the Burns brand in a responsible, ethical way,” he added.

Founded in 2020, Assisi Pet Care serves as a platform to acquire, integrate and help grow leading pet food and treat brands throughout the European Union. Since its founding, the group has acquired Maced Sp.Z.o.o, a Polish dog treat producer, and Pet Munchies Holdings, a premium, natural pet treat manufacturer, as well as Holling and Hi-Life.

According to Assisi Pet Care, the acquisition will expand its growth throughout the European Union. It is also the group’s first transaction since it was acquired by Wind Point Partners, a private equity based in Chicago.

“We are delighted to be adding the highly regarded Burns brand to the Assisi portfolio of brands but are equally pleased to be welcoming the fantastic Burns Pet Nutrition team to our organization,” said Peter Mangion, founder and chief executive officer of Assisi Pet Care. “The Burns brand is a perfect fit for Assisi in that animal health and wellbeing are central to the brand’s proposition. I am delighted that through this acquisition, we will add some excellent people in product development, marketing, sales, finance and operations functions, based in Kidwelly, Wales.

“We look forward to working with our new colleagues as we integrate the Burns brand into the Assisi portfolio and strengthen our offer to our customers across Europe,” he added. “The acquisition of Burns Pet Nutrition is the first transaction since the recent investment in Assisi by Wind Point Partners and signals our commitment to execute on our growth strategy in the European pet care market.”
