HILLSBOROUGH, NC. — Viva Raw LLC issued a voluntary recall of some of its dog and cat foods after Listeria monocytogenes was found in its pet food products. Listeria monocytogenes is a potential health risk to people and pets.

The Listeria monocytogenes contamination was discovered during a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and North Carolina Department of Agriculture (NCDA) inspection of the facility. Samples of Viva Turkey for Dogs tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, which led to the recall and destruction of all products produced in Lot 21244. After discovering some products from the lot left the warehouse, the company issued a recall.

Products from Lot 21244 included in the recall are: Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground, Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked, Viva Turkey for Cats, Viva Pure Turkey, and Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies.

The products in the recall, which are sold in 1-lb frozen bricks in clear vacuum packaging, were distributed to all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Customers who have any products from Lot 21244 should contact Viva Raw for a refund of any remaining product. The product should then be destroyed in a safe manner in order to avoid the consumption by pets or wildlife. The contaminated product should be sealed in a plastic bag and thrown in the garbage and all areas that have been in contact with the product should be sanitized.

No illnesses from the consumption of products in this recall have been reported, to date.
