LONDON — Dog food company THE PACK announced the launch of its first dry dog food formula. Similar to its wet diets, THE PACK’s dry dog food is completely plant-based and formulated with functional ingredients to support overall health and wellness.

THE PACK originally launched in 2021 focusing on plant-based wet dog food. According to the company, it has since received “incredible feedback” from consumers and decided to make the leap into the dry category.

THE PACK’s dry dog food is slowly baked using low temperatures to help preserve ingredients, flavor and nutritional value, which can be lost during traditional cooking methods, like extrusion, according to the company.

Developed in collaboration with a pet food technologist and nutritionist, the new dry dog food is formulated with all plant-based ingredients, including dried sweet potato, pumpkin, apple, green peas, spinach, tomato, beetroot, dried cranberry and blueberry, botanicals and herbs, peanut butter, oats and olive oil. The food is packed with vitamins A, C, B6 and E, potassium, calcium, iron, beta carotene, iron, folate, and other essential vitamins and minerals to support healthy skin, coat, eyes, nerves, muscles and immune function. It also contains algae oil as a source of Omega 3 fatty acids and pre- and postbiotics to support digestive health.

According to the company, the new food is the first of its kind in Europe and has been shown to be highly palatable compared to other dry dog food formulas.

“This is Europe’s first vegan, nutritionally complete, oven-baked dried food and a groundbreaking advancement in the palatability of dried plant-based food for dogs,” said Damien Clarkson, co-founder of THE PACK. “We’ve spent over a year working with nutrition and taste experts refining this recipe and have included post and prebiotics to help enrich the dog’s gut microbiome.

“Seeing this product outperform meat in taste tests has been incredibly exciting and when we sent sample bags to our existing customers 96% responded saying they will be buying the food,” he added.

In addition to functional ingredients, THE PACK’s dry formula is made with five major sources of plant-based protein, providing dogs with about 25 grams of protein per 100 grams of food, according to the company. It contains a new strain of fermented rye, which can help support dogs’ microbiome health. The food also boasts a digestibility rate of over 93%, ensuring dogs receive plenty of protein, nutrients and essential fatty acids.

THE PACK launched pre-orders for the new dry dog food on Sept. 1, offering consumers a limited-time 30% off the formula. The formula will officially hit the market later this year.
