SAN FRANCISCO — A new pet food company, PawCo Foods, publicly launched Aug. 3 following a seed funding round earlier this year. Founded by Mahsa Vazin, Ph.D., a former employee of Impossible Foods, PawCo’s foods are plant based.

Formulated with the aid of animal nutritionists and backed by science, PawCo’s pet foods are made with plant proteins, including yeast, vegetable oil, fresh produce and vitamins and minerals to create an entirely vegan formula.

"As a scientist, I couldn't stand seeing Paco, my beloved dog, eating unhealthy food every day,” Vazin said. “That's why I founded PawCo Foods — to change how our pets eat on a daily basis and make the world a greener place. I'm now dedicated to helping all of our furry friends out there to live a happy, healthy and joyful life.”

PawCo currently offers four dog food formulas: Vitamin-Rich Green Mix and Carrots; High Proteins & Fats Peanut Butter and Apple; Anti-Inflammatory with Pumpkin and Cranberries; and Antioxidant-Rich with Blueberries and Veggies.

According to PawCo, its formulas are complete-and-balanced, providing all amino acids, vitamins and minerals dogs need to thrive. The new company strives to provide healthy meals while also decreasing animal farming and reducing the environmental impact of pet food production, supporting sustainability.

Earlier this year, PawCo held a seed funding round, though investment details were not disclosed. Since then, the company has been developing a proprietary plant-based protein solely used in its pet food formulations.
