KANSAS CITY, MO. — Manufacturers in the pet food arena are beefing up production to serve the dogs and cats residing in 86.9 million households across the United States. Not only are companies and brands investing in their capacities and capabilities, but they’re also honing their portfolios to bring the latest and greatest nutritional innovations to market.

According to the American Pet Products Association, food and treat purchases represented the majority of pet industry sales in 2022, with approximately $58.1 billion spent to nourish and treat four-legged companions across the country. Despite inflationary pressures in 2023, these non-discretionary purchases are expected to continue fueling industry growth for years to come.

In the last six months of 2023, Pet Food Processing covered roughly 70 new product launches, ranging from tailor-made diets and targeted supplements to functional treats and meal-enhancing toppers. While each product carries its own claim and purpose, all are backed by an industry driven increasingly by emerging formats, new ingredients, and up-and-coming approaches to keeping pets healthy and happy.
