SAN DIEGO — Yummers Pet Supply Co. launched new freeze-dried food for dogs on Sept. 19. The formulas seek to bridge a gap between traditional kibble and raw foods for canines, according to the brand.

Yummers originally launched just one year ago, aiming to reimagine pet mealtime. It is co-founded by Rebecca Frechette Rudisch, chief executive officer, and Antoni Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness, stars of the TV series “Queer Eye.” Since then, the brand has attracted millions in investments to help support its growth strategy.

The brand’s foray into the freeze-dried segment comes upon increased consumer demand for more minimally processed pet foods. According to Yummers, freeze-dried is becoming one of the fastest-growing segments in the pet food industry as pet parents seek diets for their furry companions that mimic those they eat themselves.

Yummers’ new Freeze-Dried Dog Food is formulated to be “flavor-forward” and nutrient-rich with high-quality proteins and superfoods.

“As a chef, food has always been an expression of love,” Porowski said. “So, when I’m putting together a home cooked meal, there’s passion and purpose every step of the way. We applied that same notion of intentionality to Yummers Freeze-Dried Dog Food, looking at each individual ingredient and figuring out the best way accentuate the flavor and bioavailability.”

The foods include:

  • Protein Bits, a blend of freeze-dried animal proteins, minimally processed to optimize digestibility and preserve nutrition
  • Performance Bits, bits of complex carbohydrates made of ancient grains and protein to provide fiber and support digestive health
  • Antioxidant Blend, a blend of freeze-dried bits made of fruits and vegetables to provide essential vitamins and minerals
  • Single-ingredient freeze-dried meat from either cage-free chicken or pasture-raised beef liver
  • Dehydrated, non-GMO purple sweet potato, which provides fiber and antioxidants to support digestive and heart health

“Each ingredient is processed separately from one another to maximize flavor and nutritional value,” Frechette Rudisch said. “We use premium-grade animal proteins, real fruits and veggies, and gently cooked ancient grains to lock in all the nutrients of the food while giving pet parents accessibility and ease of mind. It’s the difference between feed and food.”

The new diets are available in three varieties: Chicken & Beef Recipe, Salmon & Beef Recipe, and Salmon & Lamb Recipe.

“Yummers’ food is AAFCO-certified, for all ages and breeds, but that’s where its similarities to other foods end,” said Cherice Roth, DVM, veterinary advisor for the brand. “This food is absolutely packed with high-quality freeze-dried proteins; the same ingredients from Yummers’ meal toppers that our pets obsessed over. Those proteins are now accompanied by ancient grains and a massive amount of other super foods that support optimal health in our beloved pups.”

In addition to supporting pet health and wellness, Yummers’ new Freeze-Dried Dog Food also aligns with the brand’s eco-friendly ethos. The formulas are all sustainably made using US-sourced ingredients, with the exception of pasture-raised lamb from New Zealand, and packaged using post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, according to the brand.

Yummers Freeze-Dried Dog Food products are available in 3-oz, 32-oz and 5-lb sizes via the brand’s e-commerce platform.
