AUSTIN, TEXAS — Pet Honesty® expanded its pet supplement line with the launch of new calming supplement for dogs: Melatonin Calming. The soft-chew supplement seeks to help ease anxiety and stress in canines.

The new Melatonin Calming supplement was designed in response to consumer demand for a non-hemp alternative to help calm dogs. It contains the seal of approval from the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC).

“Industry research shows that over half of pet parents are interested in a non-CBD or cannabis option to calm their pets, so we leaned into the science showing the Melatonin has a similar relaxation effect for dogs as it does for humans,” said Greg Reinhart, Ph.D., vice president of research and development at Pet Honesty. “Proper dosing of melatonin for dogs is an imperative, and we are proud to be a brand pet parents can trust as we can assure our Melatonin Calming supplements offers responsible dosing and guidance.”

The supplements are formulated with Melatonin, a hormone associated with circadian rhythms that promotes calm and sleep; chamomile, which has been used in herbal medicine to help relieve anxiety; and L-Theanine, an amino acid found in green tea that may help relieve stress and anxiety. The turkey-flavored supplement also contains active Valerian root, Gingko Bilboa, passionflower, Ashwagandha root, ginger root, lemon balm, L-Tryptophan, and magnesium citrate to support overall health. They seek to help calm dogs after they have experienced highly stimulating activities that trigger excitement, stress, restlessness and anxiety.

“During the summer season, it is common for dogs’ anxiety levels to become exacerbated as they are exposed to more outdoor and social activities, and noises like fireworks and travel,” said Victoria Carmella, DVM, FFCP, a member of Pet Honesty’s team of veterinarian advisors. “These experiences can be over-stimulating and often lead to stress and unwanted, and sometimes destructive, behaviors.

“I recommend melatonin for its scientifically proven effects in soothing a dog’s anxiety and advise pet parents to plan ahead and have melatonin on hand for those anxious moments such as thunderstorms or a yard full of unfamiliar guests,” she added.

To ensure the effectiveness of the supplements, Pet Honesty enlisted an independent third-party research firm to conduct a study among 74 anxious dogs. The dogs consumed the new Melatonin Calming supplement once a day for six weeks and 90% of pet parents reported an improvement in their dogs’ anxious behaviors, claiming that their dogs seemed more relaxed.

Pet Honesty recommends dosing one chew daily per 25 lbs of body weight. One dosage of the Melatonin Calming supplements will start working after 30 minutes of consumption. The supplements are available in a 90-count jar.
