BOULDER, COLO. — Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) on Aug. 3 announced its Top 20 Accredited Companies. The list designates pet industry companies who completed PSC’s Positive Impact Accreditation Program, which is a benchmark helping businesses assess, develop and implement their sustainability policies to become more environmentally friendly.

While the industry has been racked by repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, studies show sustainability remains a priority for consumers, according to PSC. The organization cited Nielsen by sharing that companies that market and pursue sustainability efforts experience a 5% bump in sales compared to other companies.

PSC’s Positive Impact Program includes a third-party assessment and verification. Most importantly, companies who are accredited must show annual improvements to be considered for the organization’s Top 20 rankings.

“Accreditation is an opportunity for Stella & Chewy’s to encourage year over year improvement, celebrate our journey within sustainability packaging, and contribute to industry-wide green initiatives,” said Mark Sapir, chief marketing officer for Stella & Chewy’s. “Doing what’s right by the planet and our furry family members is of the upmost importance to who we are as a brand.”

The Top 20 Accredited Companies for 2020 include three top-six businesses that have achieved accreditation for two years in a row, as well as 12 other companies who were accredited for the first time.

“Healthy Pet is honored to be Best-In-Category for the second year in a row, alongside other notable pet companies who are making commendable strides in sustainability practices,” said Leslie Ellis, consumer communications and promotions manager of Healthy Pet. “We will continue to strive to reach even higher goals to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for pets, people and the planet.”

Josera, a German pet food manufacturer, was named best-in-category among all accredited pet food companies. InClover Research was named best-in-category for pet supplements, MFiber was named best-in-category as an ingredient supplier to the pet food processing industry, and Morris Packaging was named best-in-category among packaging suppliers to the pet industry.
