RICHMOND, UNITED KINGDOM — Tails.com, a European dog food company offering personalized nutrition on a subscription basis, announced April 18 it is now B Corporation certified. The company joins more than 2,000 registered B Corp businesses across the United Kingdom, which employ at least 81,000 workers.

B Corp certification is provided through B Lab, a nonprofit that independently assesses global businesses in the areas of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability standards. According to the organization, an average estimated score for a “normal” business is 50, and the benchmark for B Corp certification is 80. Tails.com scored 89.8 overall across B Corp’s five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Customers, Community and Environment.

“Tails.com is founded on the ambition to change the world of pet food for good,” said Paolo Woods-Wyatt, chief executive officer of Tails.com. “Achieving certification as a B Corp from B Lab is rightly a challenging process and it has also been a valuable catalyst to inspire us to check, measure and challenge the way we run our business for the future.”

The dog food company’s environmental strategy to date has included transitioning all sites to 100% renewable energy and reducing factory waste by 14%. The company also donated more than 455,000 meals in 2023 to shelter pets and others in need.

“This is just the start of our B Corp journey and we have much more we want to do,” Woods-Wyatt added. “I’m very proud of each member of this team, and the choices we are obsessing over, each day, to make sure that feeding Tails.com is a great choice for all our customers, their pets, and the communities and environment we live in. We’re honored that Tails.com is now able to contribute as part of the vibrant UK community of B Corp businesses.”

In the Workers category, Tails.com scored high for the benefits it offers its team members. These include financial assistance for relocation, policies that allow for flexible work hours and parental leave, establishing breastfeeding stations at job sites, and what the company described as “socially responsible pension options.”

Tails.com offers a wide range of dog nutrition products spanning custom dry food, puppy and senior formulas, wet diets, dental chews, treats, and foods for dogs that need hypoallergenic or sensitive stomach solutions. The company is a subsidiary of Nestlé Purina PetCare Europe.
