SOUTHPORT, CONN. — At the end of January, Earth Animal announced it had received B Corp certification for its social and environmental efforts. The pet food company achieved an 80.3 score out of 200 in various business areas, including governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

According to Earth Animal, the certification affirms the company’s commitment to social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Among its efforts, the company uses 1% of its annual net sales to help fund “positive impact” initiatives.

In 2022, the company donated $233,419 in products and $82,617 in financial support to several animal welfare organizations, shelters, rescues and sanctuaries. It also donated $5,000 toward humanitarian efforts to support those in Ukraine.

“Our B Corp Certification is a powerful testament that backs up our long-established commitment to use 1% of our annual net sales as a force for good,” Earth Animal stated.

Alongside its support of animals and people, Earth Animal is also committed to the environment. The company has been plastic neutral certified since 2021, and in 2022 it recovered about 103,459 lbs of nature-bound plastics from oceans and offset 238 tons of carbon emissions. During Superzoo in August 2022, the company signed the Pet Sustainability Coalition’s Packaging Pledge, seeking to make all of its packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

“We are proud to join an elite community of Certified B Corps in the pet industry that consistently values pets, people and the planet,” the company shared.

Currently, about 34 pet companies are B Corp certified, including Project Hive Pet Company, Petaluma, Only Natural Pet, The Honest Kitchen, Gourmate Pet Treat Co., Lily’s Kitchen, Edgard & Cooper, Butternut Box, Beco and others.
