MIAMI — Sustainable seafood company Blue Star Foods Corp. has entered a supply agreement with pet food company Just Food For Dogs. Through the contract, Blue Star will supply the dog food company with sustainable, wild-caught cod to use in its formulations.

Blue Star is an integrated Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) seafood company with a focus in Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS). It currently owns and operates the oldest, continuously running RAS salmon farm in North America, according to the company.

Per the contract, Blue Star will supply Just Food For Dogs with 2.5 million lbs of human-grade, minced, frozen cod annually. The contract includes an auto renewal option and is expected to generate about $4 million in annual revenue for Blue Star.

The supply agreement represents Blue Star’s first foray into the pet food market.

“We are thrilled to enter into this new relationship with Just Food For Dogs and expand into a new category for us, the pet and dog food industry,” said John keeler, chairman and chief executive officer, Blue Star. “Our cod will be used as an ingredient used for their ala carte gourmet pet food.”

Blue Star’s cod fishery is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and is managed using responsible and sustainable methods.
