PHOENIX — PetSmart announced Sept. 20 the launch of The Pharmacy at PetSmart, an online platform allowing pet owners to order prescription medications and supplements through the pet retailer.
Customers can upload prescriptions from their veterinarians into the platform and place orders through PetSmart’s new online pharmacy, which are then shipped direct-to-consumer. PetSmart handles prescription verification through each veterinarian and clinic.
"The Pharmacy at PetSmart is an exciting new way to help our customers access medications for pets quickly and conveniently," said Kristin Shane, senior vice president of merchandising at PetSmart. "Whether you're ordering your prescriptions for your dog or cat, on petsmart.com or our mobile app we'll make sure you get exactly what your pet needs to thrive delivered right to your door."
Free shipping is available on orders of $49 or more through Jan. 30, 2022. Other discounts are available to PetSmart members and autoship customers.
PetSmart has partnered with Allivet to fulfill pet prescriptions ordered through The Pharmacy. Allivet is licensed in all 50 states.
"We're excited about our partnership with PetSmart," said Sree Upadhyayula, chief executive officer of Allivet "Not only is PetSmart a great brand, their incredible name recognition and high standards are a great opportunity for Allivet's Cloud Pharmacy to deliver high quality products at the lowest prices to an even larger audience."
The news shortly follows two other pet retail players’ expansions into the pet prescription space. Pet Supplies Plus announced earlier this month it has added prescription medications and pet food products to its e-commerce platform.
Chewy also launched a new vet-only marketplace, Practice Hub™, to help veterinarians and vet clinics sell products directly through its online platform.
