NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. — Layn Natural Ingredients announced Sept. 15 it has launched a natural antioxidant extract ingredient well-suited for pet supplements, as well as dietary supplements for humans, sports nutrition and personal care products.

The natural ingredient, SophorOx™, is designed to inhibit oxidative stress and support healthy inflammatory responses in people and pets. It is derived from Sophora japonica L. The ingredient is sustainably produced and fully traceable, according to Layn.

Vedic Lifesciences conducted an in vivo study validating SophorOx as a “potent antioxidant,” Layn reported. Vedic reported the ingredient significantly reduced oxidative stress and inflammation in humans performing high-intensity exercise, and is a safe nutritional option for pets. No adverse reactions in animals were noted during the study.

“We developed SophorOx™ by looking at consumer trends and needs, including healthy agers and Millennials, who are increasingly seeking natural, preventative strategies to live longer, healthier lives, along with sports and active consumers who experience oxidative stress and are looking to natural solutions for post-work out healthy inflammation support, and the growing populations of gamers, workers and students increasingly in front of computers, not to mention pets who can also benefit from this powerful ingredient,” said Jim Roza, chief scientific officer at Layn USA.

SophorOx can inhibit pro-inflammatory compounds and reactive molecules that can cause oxidative stress in animals and humans, including 8-Isoprostane, malondialdehyde (MDA), 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), C Reactive Protein (CRP), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), according to Layn.

The antioxidant ingredient can also block mediators of oxidative stress and inflammation, the company stated.

SophorOx can be used in nutraceutical products targeting joint health, cognition, eye and heart health, allergies, skin health, inflammation and exercise recovery. It can be used as a standalone ingredient or as a complement to other functional formulations.
