NEW YORK — AUA Private Equity Partners, LLC announced in early September its acquisition of Westminster Pet Products, a pet treat, chew and supply manufacturer operating a 240,000-square-foot facility in Cumberland, R.I.

Westminster sells several brands of treats, natural chews, rawhide chews and dental chews for dogs, as well as other pet accessories.

AUA Private Equity reported it will work alongside Westminster management to drive product development, increase retail channel penetration, and position the company for future acquisitions.

“We welcome Westminster and it’s management and employees as the newest addition to our portfolio,” said David Benyaminy, partner at AUA Private Equity. “Westminster’s product offering is well positioned to further capitalize on its growing end markets including the attractive pet treats, chews, and supplies categories. We see numerous opportunities to drive continued growth and our strategic acquisition will support the company’s long-term success and commitment to its customers, consumers, and pets nationwide.”

This acquisition represents AUA Private Equity’s first venture into the pet industry, seen as a lucrative opportunity for capital investors, equity firms and human-food companies alike as the market continues toward humanization.

“The pet industry has proven to be resilient throughout market cycles and also benefits from positive macro-economic trends including increased pet adoptions and spending by consumers,” added Andy Unanue, managing partner of AUA Private Equity. “Westminster is well-positioned to continue to benefit from these positive trends and we are tremendously excited about our investment in Westminster and our partnership with its management team.”

Benyaminy led the transaction, assisted by several other members and partners of AUA Private Equity, including Ari David, vice president, Greg Conway, associate, Gregory Guggenheim, senior analyst, and Kurt Van Mol, the firm’s summer intern.

Legal advice for AUA Private Equity was provided by McDermott Will & Emery LLP. Additional advisors include CohnReznick LLP, L.E.K. Consulting and Lockton Companies.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
