IRVINE, CALIF. — Layn Natural Ingredients has developed a natural pet food additive derived from Sophora japonica to manage oxidative stress and weight in dogs and cats. The ingredient, SophorOx®, is a natural botanical extract rich in polyphenols with a minimum of 90% flavonoids, according to the company.
Oxidative stress in companion animals can manifest as joint, weight and digestive issues, and is caused by a variety of factors including environment, dietary imbalances and aging. Research on polyphenols — a class of plant-based compounds including flavonoids, phenolic acids, lignans and others — has drawn attention to their beneficial impact on immunity, joint function, growth and overall quality of life, Layn shared.
“SophorOx for pets represents a significant advancement in pet supplement formulation, harnessing the power of plant-derived polyphenols to combat oxidative stress and promote overall wellbeing in dogs and cats,” said Jim Roza, chief scientific officer at Layn Natural Ingredients. “Polyphenols are vital components of plant physiology and play a crucial role in defending against environmental stressors, and our unique formulation brings these benefits to pet care. SophorOx for pets is a testament to our commitment to advancing pet wellness through innovation and scientific rigor.”
Attendees of the 2024 National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) Annual Conference, held May 21 to 23 in Palm Harbor, Fla., will have the chance to hear Roza discuss SophorOx and other natural antioxidant solutions in his session on May 22, “Antioxidants: Improving Wellbeing and Quality of Life by Inhibiting Oxidative Stress (and How to Keep Pet Owners Buying when Results are Hard to See).”
