SECAUCUS, NJ. — On Aug. 22, Freshpet relaunched its Nature’s Fresh pet food brand following a year-long transformation to make the brand more environmentally friendly. The relaunch is part of Nature’s Fresh and Freshpet’s goal to be 100% regeneratively sourced by 2025.

According to Scott Morris, president and co-founder of Freshpet, the company is committed to aiding in the creation of a more sustainable world through environmentally friendly pet food production. Nature’s Fresh is now formulated using responsibly sourced ingredients, is produced in an eco-friendly kitchen and is certified Plastic Neutral by rePurpose Global.

“We’ve been on a journey to accelerate our commitment to creating products that are not only better for our pets but are kinder to the planet,” Morris said. “The relaunch of Nature’s Fresh is fundamental to the future of our business, helping us achieve our ambition to reduce our environmental impact and make every bowl matter.”

All animal proteins used in the brand’s pet food formulas are humanely raised and responsibly sourced, including grass-fed beef, humanely raised chicken and organic turkey. Freshpet has partnered with family farmers that practice animal welfare and regenerative farming to secure more environmentally conscious ingredients for its Nature’s Fresh brand.

Nature’s Fresh is now produced in a Freshpet Kitchen that recycles, reuses and transforms every bit of waste into useable energy. The eco-friendly facility collects rainwater and is powered by wind energy to produce Nature’s Fresh. Because of this eco-friendly production, Nature’s Fresh is 100% Carbon Neutral through scopes one, two and three, offsetting carbon emissions to create a healthier environment.

Regarding packaging, Nature’s Fresh is now 100% Plastic Neutral in partnership with rePurpose Global. For every package of the brand’s products sold, rePurpose Global will remove the same amount of ocean-bound plastic from the environment.

“Our team understands that aligning with the right partners helps make us a smarter and more accountable brand,” Morris said. “We’re making decisions that are driving change, and I’m proud that Nature’s Fresh can take a leading role in helping transform our business as well as the industry.”

Freshpet has also partnered with the Global Animal Partnership, Pet Sustainability Coalition and Conservative International to help further its sustainability and animal welfare practices.

To celebrate the relaunch and sustainability of Nature’s Fresh, Freshpet has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to planting trees, to introduce a new environmental grant for pet-friendly spaces. Qualifying dog parks and other pet spaces throughout the United States can received funding through the grant to help plant and maintain tree populations.

“Community tree canopies play a vital role in the health and wellness of people, and their positive impact can extend to pets as well,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “We’re excited to partner with Freshpet on this grant program to improve pet-friendly parks and bring the unique benefits of trees to these important community spaces.”

Freshpet will also donate up to 500 trees through the Arbor Day Foundation’s Community Canopy program beginning in October 2022.
