BOULDER, COLO. — On Feb. 28, the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) announced that science-based pet food company Hill’s Pet Nutrition joined the organization as an Icon member — the highest membership the coalition offers. Icon-level members of PSC strive to advance their company’s environmental and social performance, as well as contributing to the coalition’s sustainability work.

“Industry players like Hill’s are critical to achieving scalable impact in the pet industry,” Caitlyn Dudas, executive director, PSC. “As more large multinational companies join the Coalition, we untap greater market influence to further accelerate the pet industry toward environmental and social business practices.”

According to PSC, Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s membership will provide the coalition with extra support in advancing pet food industry-wide sustainability efforts, which currently include sourcing sustainable ingredients, transitioning to sustainable packaging, and promoting a more diverse, equitable and sustainable world.

“Whether it’s pets, the people who care for them, or the planet we share together, Hill’s has a long history of using science to have a positive impact on our world,” said John Hazlin, chief executive officer, Hill’s Pet Nutrition. “As our company has grown, so has our commitment to sustainability and making a positive impact in everything we do. Because of this commitment, we are proud to partner with PSC and its distinguished members to focus holistically on how we can have the greatest impact for the communities and environments where we live and do business.”

Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s sustainability efforts currently involve using recyclable corrugated boxes and certifying its manufacturing plants under the TRUE Zero Waste program.
