VIENNA, AUSTRIA — Mondi is addressing the need for more sustainable pallet wrapping by using flexible paper instead of plastic. The paper materials used in Advantage Stretch Wrap are fully recyclable, according to the company.

Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap is a patent-pending solution using lightweight paper grade specifically designed for pallet wrapping purposes. It can stretch and resist being punctured to minimize transportation challenges.

The new flexible paper solution offers an alternative to the current industry standard of multi-layer plastic, which has low recyclability rates and is generally non-renewable. Mondi conducted acceleration tests to test the solution during transportation and was able to confirm its Advantage StretchWrap is a safe alternative to plastic.Mondi's new paper-based pallet wrap

“Mondi’s experience in high-stretch papers is in the DNA of this new paper solution,” said Paulus Goess, sales director for Mondi’s Specialty Kraft Paper division. “Mondi has been producing strong, stretchable paper for wrapping spring mattresses for over 20 years. Continuous developments for the paper parameters in strength, stretch, and reduced grammage made it possible to consider new applications.

“Now, after two years of research and development, we are proud to launch Advantage StretchWrap, our innovative paper-based solution for pallet wrapping. It is a great example of how we are making packaging and paper sustainable by design, using paper where possible, plastic when useful.”

Mondi partnered with ACMI, an Italian machinery supplier to create the new pallet wrapping system.

“Working together with Mondi on this new solution is an exciting step towards using recyclable paper for pallet wrapping,” added Luigi Brugnoli, global sales director at ACMI. “This partnership shows how innovations in paper and machine technology can align to increase the number of options available for companies who are looking for more sustainable alternatives.”

Mondi sourced renewable paper materials for Advantage StretchWrap from Scandinavia.
