LIVONIA, MICH. — Two business publications, Entrepreneur and Franchise Times, have recognized Pet Supplies Plus for its significant franchise growth in the pet retail space.

The pet retailer’s “Minus the hassle” tagline was recognized among the “Fastest-Growing Franchises” in Entrepreneur magazine, and the retailer was named “best franchise to buy” in Franchise Times’ pet store category for 2021 through its Zor Awards program.

Pet Supplies Plus doubled its new store openings in 2020 compared to 2019, adding more than 80 stores to its franchise network and opening 43 brand new locations over the year.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by these highly-respected publications, and it’s a testament to the resiliency of the pet industry, our franchise model and passionate owners who are integrated within their communities,” said Chris Rowland, president and chief executive officer of Pet Supplies Plus. “When the pandemic hit, our leadership team was quick to act by increasing inventory, rolling out delivery capabilities and additional support methods for our owners. The retailer was ranked No. 1 in the pet store category on Entrepreneur’s Fastest-Growing Franchises list, ranking No. 61 across all categories.

The Zor Awards program by Franchise Times recognizes the top 10 franchises in several categories. These top 10 companies “reflect industry momentum and appealing segments within franchising,” according to Pet Supplies Plus.

“One of the great trends to emerge from last year was the significant increase in pet ownership and pet adoption,” Rowland said. “Because of our prompt response to the new realities, we were ready — both operationally and from a health-and-safety perspective — to meet these skyrocketing demands from new pet owners while also serving our existing neighbors. Pet Supplies Plus was also ranked No. 21 in Entrepreneur’s 42^nd annual Franchise 500 list for 2021, reporting a 23.5% three-year growth rate.
