The House of Representatives has passed a bill acknowledging necessary updates and providing additional funding for the FDA’s animal food ingredient review process.
On average, it takes three to five years for a new animal food ingredient to move through the FDA’s review and approval process, causing companies to lose $1.75 million annually and slowing access to ingredients that benefit pet nutrition and health.
The agency has updated its population estimates for two major animal species based on data from the American Veterinary Medical Association and the US Department of Agriculture.
