SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN — Ag-West Bio named three new directors to its board during its annual meeting on June 29. Heather Forbes, Jason Skotheim and Mike Wonnick have all joined the board of the bioscience industry association.

“It’s crucial to have directors with a wide range of skills and experience,” said Karen Churchill, president and chief executive officer of Ag-West Bio. “We are very pleased to have such high-caliber people volunteer their time and expertise. I really look forward to working with all our board members to steer Ag-West Bio’s strategic direction.”

Forbes currently serves as president and chief executive officer of Rite Way Mfg. Co. Ltd and director and president of Morris Equipment Ltd. She also sits on the boards of Des Nedhe Group, Skeleton Lake Investment Corporation, Deer Valley Golf Corporation, and Stonehaven Construction Corporation, following several previous board appointments in the agriculture, manufacturing, forestry and nutraceutical industries throughout her career.

Skotheim is a founder of Horizon Pet Nutrition, a premium dry pet food manufacturer based in Saskatchewan. He is also a barley, wheat and canola farmer. He currently sits on the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Board, as well as on the board of the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute. He has previously served on various grain commission, research and foundation boards.

Wonnick is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a senior business advisor and a chief financial officer serving agricultural companies across Saskatchewan. Earlier in his career, he served on local and national non-profit boards.

“Also, I wish to acknowledge the outgoing directors who completed their terms: Shannon Hood-Niefer, Drew Britz, and Chris Masich all contributed tremendously during their time on the Ag-West Bio board, and I want to thank them for their efforts,” Churchill added.

Ag-West Bio aims to support Saskatchewan’s bioeconomy through the development of agri-food and agri-bioscience partnerships and initiatives.
