GRAAFF-REINET, SOUTH AFRICA — Montego Pet Nutrition recently detailed a $2 million investment in a new facility located in Centurion, South Africa. The facility features a dry pet food factory, warehouse, administration offices, and room for future expansion.
The new 21,600-square-meter (232,500-square-foot) facility combines three existing Montego facilities under one roof, including the company’s previous plant located in Gauteng, South Africa. It features production, storage and distribution capabilities. The company originally broke ground on the facility nine months ago.
“All decisions during the building process were made with future growth in mind,” said Marco van Jaarsveld, operations director at Montego. “The decision to combine all three sites into one plant is a significant move for us. This means better customer service, an increase in production and more opportunities for our staff.”
The dry pet food factory will support Montego’s Monty & Me Essential pet food line and offer co-manufacturing services to the company’s clients. It includes an on-site laboratory to ensure food safety and quality with all raw materials and final products undergoing regular testing. The factory follows HACCP Pet Food Safety regulations and is FSSC 22000 certified.
Once the factory is fully operational, it is expected to double the company’s production capacity.
Alongside the factory, the facility includes a warehouse and distribution center within close proximity to food production to help improve product delivery to Montego’s customers, while also reducing costs. According to the company, the center has decreased delivery lead times by 20%
The new facility also features a 1,400-square-meter (15,069-square-foot), three-story administration office, which can fit 147 personnel with room for new employees.
