MINNEAPOLIS — Bright Planet Pet announced an expansion of its line of plant-based dog treats with a new flavor: Better Bac’n. In conjunction with the new flavor, the company also detailed a distribution partnership with Central Pet Distribution.
The new Better Bac’n flavor builds on its existing treat flavors inspired by human foods, which currently include Better Burg’r, Better Brat and Better BBQ Chick’n. The new treat is formulated with a base of chickpea flour, brown rice, sweet potato and yeast, similar to Bright Planet Pet’s other treat flavors.
Founded in March 2020, woman-owned Bright Planet Pet strives to create more sustainable dog treats made from plants and natural ingredients. According to the company, its treats create 90% less carbon emissions and use 68% less water compared to standard meat-based dog treats. Bright Planet Pet also donates 1% of all its sales to the Eden Reforestation Project to help further its sustainability efforts.
“Bright Planet Pet was born out of a desire to create a brighter, better planet and help pet parents seeking simple ways to live more sustainable, green-forward lives,” said Katherine Ellison, founder and chief executive officer of Bright Planet Pet. “Swapping to a vegan dog treat, like Bright Planet, is one easy way, and Central Pet Distribution is an ideal partner to help us further achieve that. Central Pet’s mission to innovate, grow and lead the industry is right in line with our goals for Bright Planet.”
The partnership with Central Pet Distribution will help increase Bright Planet Pet’s product availability to independent and regional pet specialty retailers throughout the United States.
“We have heard the words ‘sustainability’ and ‘plant-based’ so many times in today’s world,” said Joe Lee, director of sales at Central Pet Distribution. “Central Pet Distribution believes these trends are here to stay and many pet owners are looking for products that align with the trends of plant-based and sustainability.
“In alignment with those beliefs, Central Pet Distribution believes there is an obvious need for products like Bright Planet in the market,” Lee added. “We’re thrilled to introduce our new partner in Bright Planet to help bring their vegan dog treats to more pet parents who are seeking sustainable and plant-based treats across the country. Our sales team is looking forward to spreading the word on Bright Planet and their products to our customers.”
The new treats will be available via Bright Planet Pet, Amazon, Chewy, Petco, Hy-Vee, PetValu and others.
