SUSKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN — The Public Health Agency of Canada on June 12 shared a pet food recall of Carnivora Fresh Frozen Patties for suspected E. coli contamination. Twenty-four lots of six products were included in the recall.
The recall includes approximately 1,803 SKU’s of potentially contaminated product sold throughout Canada between Jan. 13 and June 2020. The Carnivora brand of raw, frozen pet food is manufactured by Riveriene Farm Ltd.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, four individuals have become ill due to E. coli exposure related to this recall. Carnivora stated those individuals “could not produce the packaging nor the product lot/production codes for their product.” The illnesses were reported between Feb. 14 and May 16, 2020.
“We are in full cooperation with The Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada, and we have decided to perform a voluntary recall of the products that were present in these homes,” Carnivora said in a statement.

- 4 lots of Carnivora Whole Animal Chicken Dinner with Vegetables ‘n’ Fruit Ultra Premium Fresh Frozen Patties for Dogs and Cats, sold in 4-lb packages
- 4 lots of Carnivora Whole Animal Beef Dinner with Vegetables ‘n’ Fruit Ultra Premium Fresh Frozen Patties for Dogs and Cats, sold in 4-lb packages
- 4 lots of Carnivora Whole Animal Turkey Diet Ultra Premium Fresh Frozen Patties for Dogs & Cats, sold in 4-lb packages
- 4 lots of Carnivora Chicken Dinner with Vegetables ‘n’ Fruit, sold in 25-lb packages
- 4 lots of Carnivora Beef Dinner with Vegetables ‘n’ Fruit, sold in 25-lb packages
- 4 lots of Carnivora Turkey Diet, sold in 25-lb packages
