The pet food company failed to test the vitamin premix it was supplied for safe levels, which caused several of its wet dog foods to contain 33 times the safe upper limit for vitamin D, according to the FDA.

The additional recalled canned dog food products were affected by the same vitamin premix responsible for the initial recall.

A handful of patents, many for pet treat designs, were awarded to pet industry companies by the US Patent and Trademark Office in 2017.
