LOS ANGELES — Pet nutrition brand Full Moon Pet announced the launch of its new human-grade, air-dried dog food line: Pure Protein. The minimally processed dog food line aims to serve as a high-protein, shelf-stable upgrade from kibble, while also providing a safe alternative to freeze-dried and fresh raw pet food.

Full Moon Pure Protein contains 90% protein from humanely raised, human-grade meats from Perdue family farms that align with USDA standards used for human food. The formula is produced using an air-drying process with low heat to remove moisture and perverse nutrients, resulting in a tender, jerky-like texture that is palatable and easily digestible to canines, according to Full Moon Pet.

Minimally processed pet foods continue to gain consumer interest, with air-dried formulas offering convenience. According to Full Moon Pet, its Pure Protein provides this convenience and premium quality due to the brand’s vertical integration with Perdue family farms. The dog food does not require any refrigeration, thawing or rehydration to ensure safe handling.

“With Full Moon, we began with human-grade pet treats and later expanded to meat-based human-grade frozen food to provide dogs with truly clean, preservative-free nutrition that mimics home-cooked meals,” said Ryan Perdue, founder of Full Moon Pet and senior vice president of Perdue Specialty Meats and Emerging Brands, and a fourth generation Perdue family member. “The Pure Protein air-dried line is a natural next step; it offers the same human-grade integrity and quality, with the added convenience pet parents are seeking in a dry scoop-and-serve format. It’s our way of making real, honest food accessible to more dogs.”

The Pure Protein line includes three recipes: Free Range Chicken Recipe, Ranch Raised Beef Recipe and Homestead Turkey Recipe. Similar to all Full Moon Pet products, Pure Protein uses only human-grade ingredients. In addition to proteins, the dog food contains fish oil, Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins to support immune health. The meals are formulated to exceed Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for Adult Maintenance nutritional standards and are from artificial colors and flavors, as well as corn, wheat, soy, glycerin and other fillers.

“Trying to keep up with all the trends in pet food can be overwhelming, but it is clear that dogs benefit from real animal protein,” said Dana Wilhite, DVM, veterinarian partner with Full Moon Pet. “Pure Protein is made of 90% muscle and organ meat, providing a rich source of essential amino acids to support healthy muscle development and maintenance. It’s a great option for pet parents seeking high-protein, meat-based, complete nutrition.”

Full Moon Pure Protein meals are available in 1-lb and 2-lb bags at major retailers, including Target, Walmart and Meijer. The brand plans to expand the line to additional grocery retailers and launch online via its e-commerce platform, Amazon and Chewy this summer.
