NEW YORK — Dog nutrition and wellness brand Spot & Tango launched its first dental chew: PupGum. The product is the “first and only” dental chew for dogs made with a patent-pending postbiotic that has been clinically proven to reduce bad breath in seven days, according to Spot & Tango.
PupGum combines four core periodontal disease interventions into a single chew. The dental chew is formulated with a postbiotic that has been proven to reduce volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) in the oral microbiome. It also contains spirulina to help freshen breath and provide anti-inflammatory benefits, flax seeds to help scrape off plaque and human-grade turkey. According to Spot & Tango, this formula disrupts oral biofilms by 98% on average, prevents plaque from sticking to teeth and neutralizes 50% of the VSC.
“After two years of development and rigorous testing, we’re thrilled to introduce a product that transforms canine dental care from a daily struggle to an enjoyable treat,” said Russell Breuer, founder and chief executive officer of Spot & Tango. “While most existing dental solutions merely mask symptoms, PupGum is the first to directly target the root causes of bad breath with proven active ingredients. We believe pets deserve the same quality of ingredients as humans, and PupGum exemplifies our philosophy that better ingredients lead to better health outcomes for our four-legged family members.”

The company created PupGum in response to feedback from its customers, representing a natural extension to Spot & Tango’s pet wellness portfolio, which includes fresh, human-grade and responsibly sourced nutrition.
In addition, PupGum comes at a critical time, according to Spot & Tango, with dental disease impacting majority of dogs aged three and older. And dental issues don’t just stay in the mouth.
“Poor dental health in dogs isn’t just about bad breath — it can lead to serious systemic issues like cardiac disease or kidney disease,” said Stephanie Liff, DVM, a vet and practice owner who serves as Spot & Tango's vet advisor. “Most importantly a dirty mouth can often indicate periodontal disease which can be painful and associated with oral infection.
“What makes PupGum so revolutionary is that it addresses the root cause of dental disease by ensuring compliance and helping to prevent the formation of plaque and tartar, while being something dogs actually enjoy,” she added. “For pet parents struggling with traditional brushing, this represents a significant breakthrough in preventative care.”
PupGum is available in three sizes based on a dog's weight to ensure proper dosing and maximum effectiveness. The dental chew is available via PupGum.com for anyone to purchase, however, those who have a Spot & Tango meal plan subscription will get exclusive access to member pricing.
