LONDON — Mars, Incorporated launched its new global portfolio of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered digital tools to help pet parents monitor their pets’ wellbeing, with the first tool being GREENIES™ Canine Dental Check. The launch is part of Mars’ $1 billion investment in its pet nutrition business, seeking to transform the pet ownership experience with digital innovation.

GREENIES™ Canine Dental Check represents the first tool in this AI launch, targeting dental health in dogs. According to research shared by Mars, 80% of dogs suffer from gum disease and most owners are unaware.

To bridge this gap, the new GREENIES™ Canine Dental Check tool can help consumers detect signs of dental health issues. The tool scans a photo of dogs’ teeth and gums, identifying signs of tartar buildup and gum irritation using an AI trained model. Pet parents then receive results and are provided with recommendations on next steps. Additional guidance is also available via Mars’ PETconnect by GREENIES™. The tool is currently available in the United States.

According to Mars, the dental health tool represents an important step to further advance its goal of meeting pet parent expectations, as well as anticipating their future needs. The company plans to roll out additional AI tools throughout the year to provide real-time insights into pet wellness. For example, IAMS® Poopscan will analyze dog feces to monitor stool consistency to offer insights into digestion and health.

“For 90 years and counting, Mars has been making pet parenting better and now we’re making it easier than ever to monitor and support their pet’s health,” said Ikdeep Singh, global president of Mars Pet Nutrition. “GREENIES™ Canine Dental Check is just the beginning. By bringing together our iconic brands, and expertise across our science, diagnostics, veterinary and digital teams, we’re providing pet parents with the tools they need to better understand and care for their pets every day.”
