TORONTO — During Global Pet Expo this week, Open Farm unveiled new products for dogs, including an expansion of its Gently Cooked line and a new Epic Blend line.

The expansion of the Gently Cooked line features 11 new recipes in four different formats, including three Gently Cooked recipes, three Freshly Crafted Meatball recipes, two Goodbowl Gently Cooked recipes, and three Goodbowl Freshly Crafted Rolls. All recipes of the Gently Cooked line, new and old, feature 100% human grade ingredients including sustainably sourced protein and non-GMO fruits and vegetables.

According to Open Farm, the gently cooked process locks in essential nutrients and flavor, catering to the growing demand for high-quality, minimally processed meals. After thawing and serving, Gently Cooked recipes can be used as a complete meal or a topper.

“We have seen explosive growth in the fresh food category over the last five years, largely driven by the increasing humanization of pet diets and a heightened focus on pet health and wellness,” said Mark Sapir, chief marketing officer at Open Farm. “Our Gently Cooked line has quickly become a favorite among pet parents, and we are excited to introduces new proteins, product formats, and price points, making freshly crafted recipes accessible to a broader audience.”

Available in pre-portioned packaging, the new Gently Cooked recipes include:

  • Pasture-Raised Lamb, which is formulated with Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised lamb, as well as kale, chia seeds, and turmeric
  • Wild-Caught Fish, which features Ocean Wise® recommended, wild-caught whitefish and salmon, along with sweet potato, flaxseed, and kale
  • Tummy Rescue, which is a limited ingredient formula designed for digestive support, featuring a simple blend of Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised turkey, highly digestible pumpkin and oats. According to Open Farn, this recipe is ideal for dogs who are experiencing stomach issues and need to reset their diet

Freshly Crafted Meatballs are nutrient-dense, protein-rich bites made with humanely raised meat and organ meat for added nutrition. The meatballs can be used as a complete meal, topper or healthy treat. They are available in three recipes, including:

  • Harvest Chicken, which is made with Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised chicken
  • Turkey & Salmon, which features Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised turkey and Ocean Wise® recommended salmon
  • Grass-Fed Beef & Pork, which is made with Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised, grass-fed beef and pork

Open Farm’s Gently Cooked with Brown Rice recipes have transitioned to the Goodbowl brand, which also features its products in pre-portioned packaging. The two new recipes of GoodBowl include:

  • Grass-Fed Beef, which features Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised grass-fed beef, grains, vegetables, barley, kale, and flaxseed

For pet parents looking for simplicity, Goodbowl Freshly Crafted Rolls are designed to be a convenient “thaw, slice and serve” option. Featuring humanely raised meat as the first ingredient, the new varieties include:

  • Harvest Chicken, which is made with Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised chicken, paired with non-GMO vegetables and grains
  • Turkey & Salmon, which features Global Animal Partnership certified, humanely raised turkey and Ocean Wise® recommended salmon, plus non-GMO vegetables and grains

In addition to the expansion, Open Farm also launched its new Epic Blend line, which the brand describes as a first-of-its-kind revolutionary high-protein superfood line designed to elevate canine nutrition.

The recipes combine oven-baked kibble, air-dried meat morsels and air-dried organ meat pieces to deliver a minimally processed, protein-rich final product. Each recipe also contains vitamin E and Omega fatty acids for skin and coat health, bone broth for palatability, probiotics to support gut health, and more than 10 antioxidant-rich superfoods.

“We are incredibly excited to introduce a first to market innovation with the launch of Epic Blend,” Sapir said. “Epic Blend not only delivers premium nutrition but also simplifies mealtime by combining air-dried and kibble into one convenient offering — making it easier than ever for pet parents to feed their dogs a nutrient-dense, minimally processed diet that aligns with their values.”

The Epic Blend launch features three recipes, including Beef & Superfood, which contains Certified Humane® grass-fed beef; Chicken & Superfood, which features humanely raised Global Animal Partnership-certified chicken; and Salmon & Superfood, which contains Ocean Wise® recommended salmon and whitefish.

Both the Gently Cooked and Epic Blend lines are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance, according to Open Farm. Additionally, all bags of the new launches will also be recyclable via curbside or in-store drop off through TerraCycle®.
