HOLZMINDEN, GERMANY and ÅLESUND, NORWAY — Symrise AG recently signed a strategic partnership with Hofseth BioCare ASA (HBC), a Norwegian producer of salmon-based ingredients for the human and pet nutrition markets. According to Symrise, the partnership will help expand its presence in the health category with clinically proven marine ingredients, as well as complement its current ingredient portfolio.
Founded in 2009, HBC upcycles side streams from the salmon industry, taking fresh filleted salmon and transforming it from waste product into human-grade ingredients to enhance human and pet health.
As part of the partnership, HBC plans to refurbish its Berkak, Norway, facility into a state-of-the-art enzymatic hydrolysis plant that is expected to triple its production. Symrise and HBC will use the facility to explore new products. Additionally, Symrise will leverage its go-to-market strategy to promote HBC’s products throughout the globe.

According to the companies’, the partnership will help enhance public awareness of the health value of marine ingredients and further HBC’s position as a leader in science-led, marine nutrition.
