LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND — On Feb. 11, Nestlé Purina Petcare Europe introduced its first transparent, jelly-based cat food in the shape of a pyramid: Fine Cuts in Gelée. A new product under Purina’s GOURMET™ REVELATIONS™ line, the food seeks to delight “refined” felines by combing jelly with finely diced cuts of protein.

The new format represents a first for Purina. The product underwent years of development, with Purina scientists conducting a behavioral study on the product’s unique shape. According to Purina, the jelly pyramid shape may encourage a full range of natural behaviors in felines, from biting and licking to chewing. 

“Owners actively seek ways to show love and affection towards their cats — seeing them admire and savor their food is a crucial part of that,” said Rossana Regalia, European marketing manager for GOURMET at Purina. “We’ve undertaken extensive research to develop a product which is perfectly shaped to create the ultimate feline foodie ritual.”

GOURMET REVELATIONS Fine Cuts in Gelée is formulated with diced cuts of salmon, chicken or white fish within the jelly. The product is specifically designed to help pet parents seeking to strengthen the bond with their cats by providing them with visibly appealing food, while also being easy to serve. According to Purina, this new texture can also provide an enjoyable mealtime to a wider range of felines, as many cat owners described their cats as mousse, gravy or jelly lovers. 

The food is packaged in a patented pyramid-shaped pot design with an “easy release,” designed to ensure the food retains its pyramid shape while serving, reducing the likelihood of spills, making it more convenient for cat owners to serve. 

“In addition, our patented packaging design is truly unique in the category and helps to offer a premium serve, elevating the serving experience for pet owners who want to pamper their feline companions,” Regalia said.

GOURMET REVELATIONS Fine Cuts in Gelée expands upon Nestlé Purina Petcare Europe’s other pyramid-shape cat food. The shape originally debuted through the company’s GOURMET™ REVELATIONS™ Mousse with Cascading Gravy, which consists of a delicate mousse with gravy designed to offer an “exquisite” serving experience. 

Fine Cuts in Gelée is available in 57-gram (2.01-oz) pots in three varieties — Chicken, Salmon and White Fish — and in multipack sizes of two, four and 48 pots. The product is currently being rolled out in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Greece and Malta.
