BOULDER, COLO. — On April 4, the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) announced its 30-day Earth Day Rally to inspire 10,000 sustainable actions beginning April 22 to celebrate Earth Day. Using a platform, those within the pet industry will complete mini challenges that will provide companies with education on sustainability and corporate responsibility.

“Programs like the Earth Day Rally move everyone a step further on their journey toward a sustainable business model and lifestyle while also breaking down competition and tapping into our networks to inspire our largest group ever to take action” said Caitlyn Dudas, co-founder and executive director, PSC.

PSC’s 2022 Earth Day Rally marks its first multi-stakeholder sustainability initiative. PSC has partnered with the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA), Pet Advocacy Network (formerly PIJAC, the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council), American Pet Products Association (APPA), World Pet Association (WPA), the National Animal Veterinary Council and IndiePet to bring the program to life.

“We recognize the important ways in which human, animal and environmental health are connected. This is a great opportunity to put that commitment into action,” said Mike Bober, president and chief executive officer, Pet Advocacy Network.

The Earth Day Rally program builds upon PSC’s previous 2020 campaign that strived to inspire 1,000 actions toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive industry. The 2020 campaign saw success with more than 6,000 actions.

To accomplish its goal for Earth Day 2022, PSC has also partnered with pet companies within its large network.

“The first annual Pet Sustainability Coalition Earth Day Rally is an exciting new opportunity for the pet industry to band together and use its collective energy as a force for good,” said Stephanie Volo, chief marketing officer, Earth Animal. “As the participating company’s employees engage in the challenge, they will become more aware of the many ways, big and small, that people can take meaningful action to combat climate change.”

PSC’s sponsors for its Earth Day Rally include Pet Food Experts, Earth Animal, Instinct, West Paw, Healthy Pet, Pet Food Institute, ProAmpac, Champion Petfoods, MPM, Primal Pet Foods and many more.

“Instinct believes it’s up to all of us to take immediate actions, big and small, to stop and reverse the damage we are doing to the planet,” said Gordon Dumesich, chief growth and marketing officer, Instinct. “We’d like to take Earth Day as an opportunity to raise our collective consciousness about what we can do here and now to improve our world. We’re setting a goal to complete 800 actions that help us live our purpose, which extends far beyond transforming the lives of pets – it’s also about transforming our planet.”

All professionals within the pet industry are encouraged to participate in PSC’s Earth Day Rally. By joining and becoming an “Earth Day Activator,” individuals and teams can complete a variety of earth- friendly actions beginning April 22 through May 22.
