MEMPHIS, TENN. — Hollywood Feed, a pet food and products retailer, announced it has entered an agreement to acquire PetPeople, a retailer based in Columbus, Ohio. The acquisition will be the largest for Hollywood Feed to date, expanding its geographic presence, store count, employee base, and its natural and holistic line of products.

PetPeople offers premium, natural pet food and treats, as well as pet supplies and services including self-washing and grooming, for dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles and other small animals. According to Hollywood Feed, both retailers share similar values and a passion for helping local animal recue groups within their respective communities.

“We’re thrilled to welcome PetPeople’s team members and customers into our family,” said Shawn McGhee, president and chief executive officer, Hollywood Feed. “A like-minded retailer, they share our dedication to providing the highest level of care, products and service to our customers and their furry family members.”

The acquisition will increase Hollywood Feed’s retail store count to 180, expanding its reach to include five new states, totaling 19 states from Texas to Pennsylvania and from Michigan to Florida. The number of employees will also increase to about 1,225 for Hollywood Feed.

“The in-store experience has long set us apart in the pet supply industry,” McGhee said. “Outstanding product selection, competitive pricing, unparalleled sales associate training and education, and support of local rescue groups are the standard here. PetPeople demonstrated a similar culture of excellence, and we look forward to bringing them on board as we continue to be a top-tier retailer as well as an employer of choice.”

Outside of its retail stores, Hollywood Feed has a robust operation to support its brick-and-mortar stores, including an e-commerce platform, a 180,000-square-foot warehouse and a fleet of 17 tractor-trailers for distribution. The retailer also provides curbside pickup and same-day delivery at all of its locations.

“As demand for holistic pet products continues to grow, so do we,” McGhee said. “The acquisition of PetPeople helps ensure that our customers have access to products that enhance quality of life for their pets.”
