BOULDER, COLO. — On Feb. 7, Bond Pet Foods, a pet food startup developing lab-cultured proteins, announced Sia Furler will join its team as an investor and advisor. Furler will advance the company’s goal of creating more humane and sustainable pet food through involvement in social and digital marketing strategies.

A long-time animal advocate, Furler has been involved with many charities, including the ASPCA and the Best Friends Animal Society.

"As a devout animal and environmental advocate, I'm inspired by Bond Pet Foods' mission and believe their company is the future for sustainably led protein in pet food," Furler said. "If America's dogs and cats were their own country, their consumption of meat products alone would rank fifth in the world. I am eager to lend my voice and support to a brand that's re-imagining a cruelty-free future for all animals."

Founded in 2017, Bond Pet Foods creates sustainable, environmentally friendly and humane dog and cat food by reimagining the main ingredient: meat. The company uses precision fermentation to produce nutritionally complete chicken, beef, fish and other meat proteins for pet food. This process is already used in the human food market, typically to develop enzymes in cheese without relying on animal farming.

As well as Furler, Bond’s current investors include Lever VC, Agronomics and KBW Ventures, which will all help the company develop its meat protein portfolio. According to the company, Furler will open the conversation about developing more responsible pet nutrition.

"We're honored to welcome Sia and her deep passion for animals into the Bond family," said Rich Kelleman, co-founder and chief executive officer of Bond Pet Foods. "We believe her voice and creativity will help us further educate and excite the world about a new, better, more sustainable way to feed our pets."

Bond Pet Foods announced a partnership with Hill’s Pet Nutrition in late 2021 to accelerate development and commercialization of its fermented animal proteins in the pet food sector.
