STAMFORD, CONN. — Premium pet food producer Canidae announced April 13 a celebrity partnership with Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt entailing a sustainability campaign and the launch of a new eco-friendly pet food line, Canidae Sustain™.

Schwarzenegger Pratt is a New York Times best-selling author and animal advocate, and is also known for being environmentally conscious in her lifestyle. The partnership and launch were announced ahead of Earth Day 2021, which many pet food and treat brands are leveraging as an opportunity to showcase, pledge and share their sustainability stories as consumers increasingly look to more environmentally friendly products.

Canidae Sustain is formulated with responsibly sourced proteins and ingredients grown through regenerative farming methods. Packaging for the new pet food formulas is made from 40% post-consumer recycled materials.

"As a premium pet food company that stands for delivering goodness to all, Canidae Sustain embodies all aspects of sustainability, from a solely plant-based recipe to ecofriendly packaging," said Bret Furio, chief executive officer of Canidae. "With the launch of the Sustain line, we know Katherine, embodying Canidae's mission, will be the ideal face for Sustain the Goodness, teaching her community the importance that small changes can make a large impact on our ecological footprint, such changes start with feeding pets sustainably sourced, quality pet food."

Canidae Sustain includes three recipes: Cage-Free Chicken, Wild-Caught Alaskan Salmon and Plant-Based Protein Recipe. The Plant-Based Protein recipe is formulated with brewers yeast as the first ingredient, as well as peas, soybean meal, oatmeal and whole grain sorghum. All formulas are in dry kibble formats and intended for adult dogs.

Canidae has also recruited Kate Bosworth and Miyoko Schinner, a vegan culinary entrepreneur, to participate in its Sustain the Goodness campaign. Bosworth and Schinner are both members of an animal and sustainability group known as the Goodness Crew.

"In feeding my dog Canidae Sustain, I can trust that he is receiving all of the nutrition he needs, standing by their mission to bring goodness to pets, people and their planet," Schwarzenegger Pratt commented. "I love that Canidae Sustain's ingredients use sustainably sourced proteins like cage-free chicken and up-cycled brewer's yeast and also include regeneratively farmed ingredients where possible.  I am looking forward to taking this pledge and spreading the word for Canidae's Sustain the Goodness initiative, encouraging others to adopt one new habit to help us sustain the goodness of our planet."

Schwarzenegger, Bosworth and Schinner will use their social media presences to invite consumers to “commit to one small act of goodness for a more sustainable earth,” in partnership with Canidae and by using the hashtag #SustainTheGoodness.

To encourage consumer participation, Canidae will reward four sweepstakes winners per week and one grand prize winner to receive a one-year supply of Canidae Sustain, as well as other sustainable pantry items through Hungry Harvest.

All consumers who participate in the campaign will be eligible for 50% off a bag of Canidae pet food.
