ST. LOUIS — Manna Pro Products announced April 6 its acquisition of ZuPreem, a manufacturer of premium nutrition solutions for companion birds, other small mammals and zoo animals. ZuPreem joins several other pet care companies now owned by Manna Pro.

ZuPreem is based in Shawnee, Kan., and is a leading brand in the companion bird nutrition market. The company distributes its products to more than 5,000 pet stores in the United States, including some of the nation’s largest pet specialty retailers. ZuPreem was founded by David R. Morris more than 27 years ago.

“ZuPreem’s approach to the welfare of animals through innovative nutrition and research to the highest quality standards of manufacturing makes the brand a perfect addition to the Manna Pro portfolio,” said John Howe, chief executive officer of Manna Pro. “This acquisition enables us to expand our leadership across new pet segments in the US and abroad with a veterinary-backed, consumer-trusted brand that shares our commitment to Nurturing Life.”

Manna Pro’s pet care portfolio includes Bullymake, which it acquired in January 2021; Doggie Dailies, a pet supplement company acquired in August 2020; Hero Pet Brands, acquired in June 2019; and VetScience LLC, maker of the Fruitables brand of premium natural dog treats and supplements, acquired in May 2018.

“ZuPreem has always been committed to providing premium nutrition for pets and exotic animals, and we conducted a worldwide search to find the right partner to carry the tradition forward,” Morris said. “I’m proud of my family’s contributions to animal health and believe Manna Pro is a great fit to continue ZuPreem’s mission of providing the quality nutrition pet owners have come to expect from the brand.”

Manna Pro itself was acquired by The Carlyle Group in November 2020. Prior to that transaction, Manna Pro was owned by Morgan Stanley Capital Partners.
