CHILLIWACK, B.C. — Petcurean, a Canadian manufacturer of pet food and treats, launched three new solutions-based dog diets on Feb. 26 during Global Pet Expo, adding to its extensive GO! Solutions line.

The formulas include skin and coat care with duck and grains; skin and coat care with turkey and grains; and a small breed-specific, limited-ingredient sensitive stomach line with salmon that is grain-free.

The two diets focused on supporting skin and coat health are free from legumes or potatoes, but are grain-inclusive, featuring oatmeal, brown rice and whole oats. They complement Petcurean’s existing skin and coat lamb dog food, which is also grain-friendly and legume- and potato-free.

Petcurean’s new skin and coat diets also include added taurine, whole dried egg as a source of amino acids, antioxidants from apples, carrots and cranberries, and probiotics and prebiotic fiber to support digestion.

The three skin and coat care diets include the same general ingredients, with the protein source being the main difference, making them a good option for rotational feeding, explained Natalie Asaro, companion animal nutritionist for Petcurean.

The company’s new small dog formula is grain-free and designed for dogs with food sensitivities. The diet features reduced fat compared to the formula intended for larger breeds, as well as smaller individual kibble sizes. The first two ingredients are fresh, de-boned salmon and salmon meal.

This diet has been one of Petcurean’s top selling canine recipes internationally, which drove the decision to introduce the recipe to the US market, Asaro said. The lower fat diet can be a good option for small breed dogs that might have a propensity for pancreatitis.

The GO! Solutions Sensitivities diet for small dogs features dried chicory root to deliver prebiotic fiber, and Omega oils. The diet does not contain chicken or chicken fat, and is free from wheat, corn and soy.

All three new dog foods are free from growth hormones, by-products or artificial preservatives, according to Petcurean.
