AUBURN, Ky. — Champion Petfoods launched a slew of new products on Feb. 26 during Global Pet Expo, including a small breed dog food, new cat diets, enhanced ACANA Singles formulas, and reformulations and updated packaging for its ACANA Regionals diets for cats.

The company’s new small breed dog food, ORIJEN Small Breed, is designed to support immune system health and joint mobility. The formula includes poultry animal proteins, including free-run chicken, turkey and quail, as well as three kinds of whole, wild-caught fish, the company says.

ACANA cat foods will add four new formulas — First Feast, Homestead Harvest, Bountiful Catch and Indoor Entrée — all including small prey animal ingredients.

First Feast is a kitten diet formulated with 70% small prey animal proteins. Homestead Harvest includes 65% animal proteins from poultry and fish, as well as added vitamins and minerals to support eye and heart health. Bountiful Catch includes 65% fish ingredients to provide Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids for skin and coat health, and Indoor Entrée is a weight management and lean muscle maintenance formula that includes 65% animal protein.

First Feast, ACANA's new kitten-specific diet, is slightly higher in animal protein than Champion's other new ACANA diets.

ACANA Regionals cat foods  — Meadowlands, Grasslands and Wild Atlantic — will now include 75% high-quality animal proteins, natural fiber sources and a probiotic blend for digestive health.

Champion’s new-and-improved ACANA Singles formulas will now include increased fresh meat proteins, from 60 to 65%, reduced legume ingredients by 50%, as well as replace peas with sweet potatoes and add taurine and B vitamins to support heart health.

“Champion is all about offering premium recipes with the health of pets as our primary focus. The new recipes provide better quality options for a larger segment of the pet population. With the trend in small breed ownership, our new ORIJEN Small Breed and ACANA Cat recipes meet the growing needs of today’s Pet Lovers who demand quality and trust,” said Rod Troni, chief marketing officer at Champion.

The company’s new ORIJEN Small Breed, ACANA cat foods and ACANA Singles formulas will be on shelves at pet specialty retail locations in mid- to late-April.
