The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) will host a webinar on Tuesday, Nov. 19, on sustainable protein sourcing for the pet food and treat supply chain featuring Nick Sterling, current associate director of sustainability for The Cheesecake Factory and supply chain sustainability expert.

PSC will present a four-part evaluation model that manufacturers, suppliers, brands, distributors and retailers can use to vet the sustainability of certain animal-based pet food and treat ingredients.

“The production of proteins has one of the largest environmental impacts in the pet industry,” the organization said. To get a sense of the environmental impacts, PSC partnered with Iowa State University on a research project to compare sustainability and nutritional value of common proteins used in the pet food and treat industry.

Sterling has been a PSC partner since it was founded in 2013, according to the organization. He has worked with several pet industry companies on supply chain sustainability, including Ainsworth, Petcurean and PetSmart.

Register for the PSC’s webinar on sustainable proteins, which will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Central on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
