CHICAGO — Commercial Food Sanitation, a subsidiary company of Intralox, took home gold from the PROCESS EXPO 2019 Innovations Showcase in the pet food and treats category. The company’s FoodSafe Conveyance Workshop targets processors using conveyors for production and focuses on maintenance, engineering, operations, quality and sanitation.

Commercial Food Sanitation’s FoodSafe Conveyance Workshop was the only contender in the pet food and treats category, and it was also considered for an award in the cheese, dairy, milk and yogurt category.

The hands-on conveyance workshop is led by a CFS food safety specialist and an application engineer from Intralox. They travel to facilities that have registered for the workshop, walk its production lines to get a feel for the operation, then introduce training materials that are tailored to that specific operation and drive company-wide improvements in food safety, according to Commercial Food Sanitation.

The main objectives of the workshop are to point out where conveyor performance and food safety overlap; minimize conveyor-related food safety risk; recognize, manage and maintain the conveyor through a food safety lens; promote strong, measurable maintenance, sanitation and pathogen control procedures; and align multi-disciplinary personnel under a “food safe culture.”

Facilities that demonstrate a collective understanding of these learning objectives receive a certificate at the end of the workshop.

The Innovations Showcase awards were presented on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8. Commercial Food Sanitation was one of 17 companies to be considered for an Innovations Showcase award during the trade show.
