CHILLIWACK, British Columbia — Canadian pet food company Petcurean announced Sept. 24 it donated 17,000 lbs. of pet food to the Bahamas Humane Society in Nassau to benefit shelter animals and residents affected by Hurricane Dorian.

The Category 5 hurricane devastated the islands Sept. 1, with an estimated 60% of homes destroyed and tens of thousands displaced or in need, Petcurean said.

Petcurean’s distribution partners, Southeast Pet and Phillips Pet Food & Supplies, will assist with the pet food donation.

“The damage that this storm has caused is unimaginable, and we hope to provide even the smallest bit of relief, comfort, and hope for the families and precious pets affected by Hurricane Dorian,” says Christine Mallier, public relations and community relations manager at Petcurean. “As the rebuilding begins, we want to do what we can to support the local animal shelters that have no doubt been inundated with displaced animals waiting to be reunited with their families.”

This is one of 193 donations made by Petcurean so far in 2019, totaling 92,600 lbs. of pet food to help animal shelters and victims of natural disasters.
