ARLINGTON, Va. — The American Feed Industry Association will host a Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) for Animal Food training for manufacturers to become preventive controls qualified individuals (PCQI). The 20-hour course will be held July 30 through Aug. 1, 2019 at the Inn at Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee.

The training will provide the “standardized curriculum” recognized by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as adequate. Topics include an overview of Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) standards for animal food, Current Good Manufacturing Practices, safety hazards, process preventive controls and management components, recall plans and other key standards.

“The FSPCA animal food course is one of the best ways to learn about compliance with FSMA’s animal food rule,” said Gary Huddleston, AFIA’s director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs. “The best way to prepare for an inspection is to know the rules and this course builds employee confidence and understanding of what is required.”

FSMA regulations require at least one PCQI in each manufacturing, packaging or storage facility dealing with animal food to make sure animal food safety plans are developed and maintained.
