BOSTON — Polkadog Bakery, a dog and cat treat producer, announced during Global Pet Expo it plans to open its new 14,000-sq.-ft. kitchen in April 2019 in Boston’s Fish Pier. The new facility will increase Polkadog’s capacity to produce more single-ingredient, soft chew and crunchy training treats.

“We’ve seen such a huge increase in demand for our treats,” said Deborah Suchman, co-founder of Polkadog. “But we always have to explain that our commitment to the processes of developing and making healthy, sustainable treats in our own kitchen limits the amount of contracts we can accept. Not anymore.”

Suchman and Rob Van Sickle founded Polkadog Bakery together in 2002 in a corner shop in Boston. They use locally sourced ingredients to handcraft their dog and cat treats in small batches. The brand’s focus is on health and sustainability, which reflects in their environmentally friendly practices and ingredients.

“I love the idea of having expanded capacity. But for me, growing also means expanding the process: making new and better treats. Really, I can’t wait,” added Suchman.

Polkadog produces dehydrated, single-ingredient chips formulated with sustainably caught Alaskan salmon and cod. It also makes single-ingredient jerky treats, formulated with cod skins, haddock skins and US farm-raised chicken breast.
