The US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service website has been stalled by the government shutdown, according to a statement on its website citing a “lapse in federal funding.”  No news on recalls, regulations and policies have been updated since Dec. 30, 2018.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also issued a statement in reaction to the shutdown, saying, “During the lapse period, the agency will be continuing vital activities, to the extent permitted by the law, that are critical to ensuring public health and safety in the United States.” This includes monitoring for and informing the public about foodborne illness and the flu, supporting recalls and pursuing investigations, screening food and medical products, and addressing other critical public health issues. The FDA will not, however, be able to accept regulatory submissions until government funding resumes.
