Cow Pie frozen raw meat pet food from Columbia River Natural Pet Foods Inc.Vancouver, Washington-based Columbia River Natural Pet Foods Inc. has voluntarily recalled 933 packages of Cow Pie frozen meats for dogs and cats for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, in cooperation with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The potentially contaminated products were manufactured in August 2017. No illnesses have been reported.

Cow Pie frozen meat products, intended to be fed raw to pets, were distributed in Alaska, Oregon and Washington through retail stores and direct delivery. The product comes in 2-lb. purple and white plastic packaging with an orange sticker that says “81917,” referring to the lot number processed on August 19, 2017.

Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne illness that can be deadly to humans who have handled contaminated food and can adversely affect pets in some cases. Routine testing by the Washington State Department of Agriculture revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in one package of Cow Pie, prompting the widespread recall of the product. The FDA warns consumers who have purchased the product to stop feeding it to pets and return any unused product to the place of purchase for a refund.
