PORTLAND, Ore. — Radagast Pet Food Inc. is expanding its voluntary recall to include all Rad Cat Raw Diet formulas shipped within a 15-month period. All varieties with best-by dates of 10/19/18 through 12/3/19 are being recalled due to the potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Radagast Pet Food is conducting this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution because of its strong commitment to food safety and quality. No pet or human illnesses caused by consumption of or exposure to Rad Cat Raw Diet products have been reported to date. A previous recall in July included four lot numbers and one in March included two lot numbers.

This expanded recall includes products with lot numbers 62763 through 63101.  The products were shipped to distributors in the US and Canada between 5/10/17 and 8/9/18. The lot number and best-by date can be found on the bottom of each container.

The company has taken proactive measures to eradicate the source and it is confident that its corrective actions have eliminated the source of potential contamination related to this recall.  This expanded recall will capture any additional lots that may have been affected.

In a letter to customers posted on the company’s website, the company says the location of the contamination was pinpointed to a small part with a concealed screw. The company stressed that the source of the bacteria which caused the recall never came into contact with any food products but did come into contact with some of the drippings. To address the issue, the company says that it sterilized all of its equipment, sanitized production areas, currently collects 150 samples daily of its packaged products and has implemented high-pressure processing for its venison and lamb varieties. Additionally, the company points out that the concealed screw is now removed daily as part of routine cleaning.

Consumers are encouraged to check the lot codes on their containers and return them to the specialty retailer where purchased for a full refund.
